Science is Power

This year’s National Science Month theme, “Harnessing the Unknown: Powering the Future through Science and Innovation,” reminds us that science is more than facts in books or experiments in laboratories. It is about curiosity and courage, the willingness to explore what we do not yet understand and to turn those discoveries into innovations that improve people’s lives. From the mysteries of space to the promises of artificial intelligence, the unknown is where discoveries begin, and innovation is how we bring those discoveries into the real world.

Looking to the future, the bond between science and society will continue to grow. Science provides
answers to many of the challenges we face today such as climate change, health crises, and energy shortages. At the same time, it pushes us to think about fairness and responsibility. Breakthroughs in renewable energy, biotechnology, and digital technologies can transform the way we live, but their true value will only be realized if they are shared fairly and used wisely.

Science is not a solitary pursuit. Its success depends on collaboration among scientists, educators, policymakers, and communities. Each new discovery opens a door, and society decides how to walk through it. By engaging people in learning, participation, and awareness, science becomes a shared journey rather than something distant from everyday life.

In the end, celebrating National Science Month is also a way of celebrating our shared humanity. To “harness the unknown” is to face the future with curiosity and hope, trusting that together we can build a world where science and innovation serve the common good. Science gives us the tools to imagine a better tomorrow, and it is our role as a society to use them with wisdom and compassion.

Climate Change and the Determination of Filipino People in Facing a Problem

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges the Philippines faces today. As an archipelago, our country is always exposed to typhoons, floods, droughts, and rising sea levels. These changes in the environment are not accidents. They are worsened by global warming, pollution, and the loss of forests. Every year, storms grow stronger, seas rise higher, and communities are left with less security and more uncertainty.

For many Filipinos, climate change is not just a distant issue but a daily reality. Farmers watch their crops wither after long weeks of drought or get washed away by sudden heavy rains. Fishers return home with smaller catches as warmer waters disturb marine life. Families in the cities face flooding that damages homes, sweeps away belongings, and disrupts work and school. Problems like illegal logging, poor waste disposal, and uncontrolled urban growth only make these struggles even harder.

And yet, amid all these challenges, the
resilience of Filipinos shines through. Families open their doors to help neighbors rebuild. Communities share food and water when supplies run low. Volunteers risk their own safety to rescue others during disasters. The spirit of bayanihan reminds us that in times of hardship, no one is truly alone.

Resilience, however, should not only mean enduring one storm after another. It should also mean building a safer tomorrow. By practicing sustainable farming, shifting to renewable energy, managing our waste properly, and restoring our forests, we can prepare for the future while caring for the present. The journey will not be easy, but the unity, courage, and hope of the Filipino people will always be stronger than fear.

Intramurals

Intramurals are more than just games or competitions. They are a celebration of talent, friendship, and school spirit. Every year, we come together not just to show athletic skills but also to strengthen bonds, build confidence, and create memories that we will carry long after the final whistle blows.

For me, my biggest contribution during intramurals was not playing on the court or running on the field but cheering and supporting my classmates. I may not have been the one scoring points, but I knew that my voice, my claps, and my energy made a difference. Every cheer felt like fuel that pushed our players to keep going, to fight harder, and to believe in themselves. Cheering is not just about making noise. It is about letting our teammates know that we have their backs, that they are never alone, and that we are with them through every win and every challenge.

That is why intramurals are so important. They are not only about who wins or loses but about what we gain together. They bring students closer, whether as teammates working toward the same goal or as rivals who respect each other’s effort. They teach us lessons in discipline, leadership, and sportsmanship, lessons that go beyond the classroom. Most of all, intramurals light up the school with spirit and pride. Every chant, every clap, and every moment of support reminds us that we are part of one community. In the end, it is not just about sports. It is about growing as individuals and as a family.
